The later model ND-RF (2.0L) adopted a dual-mass flywheel.
To ensure smooth driving, the flywheel (FW) is divided into two parts: a primary flywheel and a secondary flywheel. It has a structure that incorporates a spring damper inside.
While it is praised for being suitable for comfortable driving, it is surprisingly fragile when it comes to clutch operation intended for sporty driving, and problems are frequent.
Now, the 12R, which was recently sold in limited quantities and is said to be the pinnacle of Roadster history, is the ND that the manufacturer proposes for performance driving. And this 12R employs a dedicated clutch system.
That said, it is not extremely complex, and it simply reverts to a single-mass flywheel. I like to think that this is a kind of message from the manufacturer, that is, "the single-mass type is suitable for performance driving."
If you want to enjoy a comfortable ND, use dual-mass.
If you want performance driving, use single-mass.
