The factory turbo SE came with a slightly different exhaust configuration with different flange locations than other non-turbo NB8B's and the result was that exhausts for non-turbo won't bolt up to an SE, so SE owners are stuck with only exhaust specifically designed for the SE
This connecting pipe replaces the SE's connecting pipe between the downpipe and midpipe (the section with the catalytic converter in it). This pipe bolts up to the SE downpipe and then places the output flange to match up to the midpipe on a non-turbo 1998-2005 NB. So with the switch to this connecting pipe now you can bolt up to your SE a midpipe and muffler designed for a normal 98-05 NB, like our highflow 2.5 inch RoadsterSport NB Midpipes and RoadsterSport 2.5 inch Mufflers. Finally, plug and play options! In the midpipes for non-turbo 98-05 NB's, the catalytic converter is in the midpipe, so with this switch you do retain a catalytic converter in the system as long you the midpipe you use has a cat.
This connecting pipe was designed around making it possible to use our RoadsterSport midpipes for non-turbo 98-05 on the SE. Our RoadsterSport midpipes are two pieces and joined by a slip joint in the middle. While it is possible that this connecting pipe makes it possible to run other brand's midpipes for on-turbo Miatas, we have not test fit those other options and cannot guarantee compatibility, especially for any one-piece midpipe where the length is not adjustable.

Exhaust hanger locations on the MSM are the same as other NBs, so any of our RoadsterSport NB midpipes and RoadsterSport mufflers will hang on an MSM.
